THE VILLAGES — A Villages resident was pronounced dead early Monday morning after succumbing to injuries she sustained when she was struck by a golf cart earlier this month.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, 68-year-old Joan Marie Colonna was walking southbound in a golf cart lane on Sunset Point Boulevard south of Hartsville Trail when she was struck.

Troopers reported that a 70-year-old Barbara Ruhe was also traveling southbound in the golf cart lane behind another golf cart on January 16.

When the leading golf cart maneuvered to avoid Colonna, Ruhe did not have enough time to react, causing her to hit Colonna.

Colonna was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center where she remained until 7:55 a.m. Monday morning at which time she was pronounced dead due to the injuries sustained in the collision.

According to the report, charges are pending.
