FLORIDA – Hurricane Matthew affected many Central Florida families in more ways than just the damage from the weather. After stocking up on non-perishable foods, water, and other supplies, some residents are finding themselves financially struggling to replace any lost food due to power outages or are unable to purchase food in the meantime. But there is good news for residents who receive SNAP Food Stamp benefits.

According to a recording on the Department of Children and Families’ hotline, residents throughout Central Florida received their benefits for October earlier than normal as a result of Hurricane Matthew.

The recording, which listed many counties in Florida, announced that residents from Lake, Marion, and Citrus counties received their benefits on October 7th while residents of Sumter County received their benefits on October 8th.

According to several residents who receive SNAP benefits, no notice was given and they were unaware that their benefits were available.

Florida officials stated that if you normally receive your benefits after the 8th, that you should have your full benefits available as of the 7th or 8th of October.
