Suspect Involved in WalMart Shooting Captured

LEESBURG –  Lake County Deputies have captured a man who they say is connected to the fatal shooting at WalMart on Monday night that ended in the death of 44-year-old Mark Allen Estes.

According to Lt. John Herrell of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, detectives apprehended 24-year-old Scott Bernard Thomas Thursday afternoon following a search that included Lake County Deputies, K-9 units, and the Lake County Sheriff’s helicopter.

During the search, Thomas fled on foot causing deputies to chase after him. Carver Middle School was placed on a short lockdown as a precaution while deputies searched the area.


Thomas was apprehended by a Deputy K-9 at Birchwood Apartments in Leesburg.

Thomas was detained and taken to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office to be interviewed.
