The driver of the RV, 63-year-old Michigan resident Timothy Petersen told troopers that he saw Garrett’s headlights but assumed he had enough time to cross over to the eastbound lane of Highway 484.

Petersen pulled out into the path of Garrett’s 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora causing Garret to crash into the side of the RV.

Garrett’s vehicle then became wedged under the RV trapping Garrett inside until a Marion County Fire Rescue team was able to extricate him.

A passenger in Peterson’s RV, 58-year-old Jenny Petersen, suffered minor injuries which were treated at the scene by responding EMS personnel.

Peterson did not suffer any injuries.

Peterson was charged with failure to yield the right-of-way.
