Motorcyclist in Critical Condition After Collision with Utility Trailer

CRYSTAL RIVER – A 22-year-old motorcyclist is in critical condition after colliding with a utility trailer Wednesday afternoon near West Highland Street according to Florida Highway Patrol reports.

The incident occurred just after 12:30 pm on US Highway 19, the report stated.

According to troopers, 26-year-old Rene Cruz, Jr. was traveling southbound on US-19 in his 2009 Ford Flex with a small utility trailer in tow when he attempted to make a left turn onto West Highland Street.

At that time, Cruz reportedly turned into the path of 22-year-old Paul Fassold who was traveling northbound on US-19 in his 2008 Harley Davidson.

Fassold did not have enough time to avoid Cruz and collided with the utility trailer.

During the collision, Fassold was thrown from his motorcycle. He was later transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center where he is currently listed in critical condition.

The incident is still under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol and charges are pending.
