Marion County Fire Crew Replaces Veteran’s Flag After Fire

OCALA — On October 1 Marion Country Fire Rescue responded to a vehicle fire at Silver Springs RV Resort. At 11:39 a.m. the 911 caller reported his vehicle was fully involved and the fire was quickly spreading on the property.

Rescue crews arrived from Station #4 just over seven minutes from receiving the call and deployed two hoses to the fully involved vehicle and grassy area where the fire had spread.

Within minutes Station #33 arrived to assist with the fire, and it was “under control” around 11:55. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

During the fire the victim’s American flag was damaged and was properly retired as crews learned he was a 23 year veteran of the Air Force.

Station #33 crew members returned soon after the call with a new American flag and raised it to honor the veteran and his service.
