HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS — A 56-year-old Howey-in-the-hills man was arrested Monday afternoon following an investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
FDLE Agents received a call from the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office on September 10 regarding an online investigation into child pornography that led them to an IP address associated with a computer located in Lake County.
Since the computer was outside of the Seminole County Sheriff’s jurisdiction, the case was then handed over the to FDLE Cyber Crimes Task Force.
Agents tracked the IP address to a home on South Palm Avenue in Howey-in-the-hills.
After executing a search warrant and interviewing the homeowner, agents learned that the homeowner had given his neighbor access to his WiFi.
A search warrant for the neighbor’s home was then obtained and executed on the home located directly across the street from the original location.
During their search, agents questioned Troy Ogden who reportedly admitted to searching the internet for sexually explicit images of young underage girls and downloading them using peer-to-peer software.
Ogden’s laptop was taken to an offsite cyber lab where technicians later reported finding seven sexually explicit files of images and videos depicting girls as young as eight-years-old nude or committing sexual acts.
Ogden was subsequently arrested and charged with seven felony counts of possession of child pornography. He was transported to the Lake County Jail where he remains in lieu of a $70,000 bond.
Ogden is scheduled to appear in court at 8:30 a.m. on November 5.
