ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. — A Leesburg woman suffered fatal injuries in an accident that occurred on Interstate 75 Friday night according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
Troopers responded to mile marker 383 on I-75 at approximately 11:35 p.m. after receiving calls about a vehicle that had run off of the interstate.
According to the report, 20-year-old Keshawn Johnson of Leesburg was traveling southbound on the inside lane of the interstate when her 2002 Mercury Sable drifted into the median.
Johnson attempted to get back onto the pavement, however, troopers believe she overcorrected and the vehicle traveled off the pavement again onto the grassy shoulder before colliding with a tree.
Johnson was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash by responders.
Blood tests are pending to determine if alcohol was involved in the incident.
It is unknown if Johnson was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.
