Lake County government offices to close for the Fourth of July; Solid Waste collection to shift by one day

TAVARES —All offices of the Lake County Board of County Commissioners, Property Appraiser, Supervisor of Elections and Tax Collector; the Lake County Animal Shelter, the Lake County Extension Center and Discovery Gardens, and all 15 Lake County Library System libraries will be closed on Tuesday, July 4.

The Lake County Courthouse including the Clerk of Court’s Office, the State Attorney’s Office, and the Public Defender’s Office will be closed on July 3 and July 4.

LakeXpress, the county’s fixed-route bus system, will not operate on the holiday. Lake County Connection, the county’s disadvantaged transportation service, will provide dialysis service only on July 4.

Lake County Solid Waste operations, including residential collection services, customer service, the Central Landfill Facility and residential drop-offs, will be closed on July 4. Residential collections for citizens living in unincorporated Lake County (not within municipal city limits) will shift to the following day beginning Wednesday. For example, those who normally have residential curbside collection services for household garbage, recycling or yard waste on Tuesday, will instead have collection on WednesdayThursday collection will be on Friday and Friday collection will be on Saturday.

For residents in certain communities with twice-per-week garbage collection, regular pickups for the remainder of the holiday week after Tuesday will also occur one day later for each of the two pickups.

Any excess trash, either bagged or placed into a non-county trash cart, will be accepted during the holiday week only between July 5 and July 10. No hazardous waste items will be collected.
