LEESBURG – An elderly man who has not been identified by officials, was caught in a residential fire early Saturday morning according to Leesburg Fire Department’s Deputy Fire Chief Joe Mera.
The Leesburg Fire Department along with Lake County Fire Rescue were dispatched to a home on Arlington Ridge Boulevard on the south side of Leesburg at approximately 5:03 am Saturday morning.
When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from the rear of the house.
Firefighters began attacking the flames immediately and searched the house.
During their search, they found the elderly man unconscious.
The man was immediately removed from the home and was administered “life-saving measures” by firefighters until Lake EMS units arrived.
The man was then airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center and his condition is currently unknown.
There were no other occupants in the home according to Mera.
Once the man was removed from the home, firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames.
The cause of the fire has not been determined and it is still under investigation by the State Fire Marshall.
