
CLERMONT — Deputies arrested 22-year-old Jeffrey Judd Thursday afternoon after the Lake Sumter student allegedly discharged a firearm in a bathroom at the Cooper Memorial Library according to police reports.
A report released by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office stated that deputies responded to the library on Thursday after receiving a call from school officials reporting the shooting.
Judd told deputies that he was studying at the library when he went into the restroom and while
Judd said he thought the gun was unloaded when he put his finger on the trigger.
Judd told police that the gun accidentally discharged one round into the bathroom mirror and he was unsure of what to do due to the sudden rush of adrenaline and the ringing from the gunshot.
Campus security stated that Judd willingly turned himself in and handed the weapon over to security officers.
No students were harmed during the incident.
Deputies arrested Judd and charged him possession of a firearm on school property.
Judd was transported to the Lake County Jail where he was later released after posting a $2,000 bond.
