Clermont man arrested for attempted murder

CLERMONT – A Clermont man is behind bars after being charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one felony count of attempted murder.

According to an arrest report, 29-year-old Sabiel Rivera was arrested Saturday night after deputies responded to a call at Three Amigos Sweepstakes Casino located at 1428 Sunrise Plaza Drive in Clermont.

According to the report, Rivera and another patron became involved in a verbal altercation which turned physical. During the argument, Rivera took out a gun from his waistband and fired several shots towards the victim and the victims wife.

An employee that works at the casino stated that she was in between the victims and Rivera and had to duck down behind a corner to avoid being shot in the cross fire.

The victim told deputies the altercation began when he took a break from the game he was playing and came back to find Rivera playing on the machine that the victim had his money in.

Luckily no one was injured during the incident.

Rivera was not at the scene when deputies arrived, however, deputies were able to locate him at his home.

Rivera was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, eleven counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and one felony count of attempted murder. He is being held at the Lake County jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond.

Rivera is scheduled to appear in court for his arraignment on November 28 at 8:00 am.
